The Denby Variations

An interdisciplinary performance in poetry, music, and movement

"The Denby Variations" is a work for four dancers, a musician/composer, and a speaker, based on the language of poet and dance critic Edwin Denby, widely considered the most important and influential American dance critic of the 20th century. The piece originated from a cycle of 14 sonnet-centos created by Kathleen Heil using her favorite phrases from Denby's dance criticism, the words of which are used courtesy of the Edwin Denby Estate.
